V4 Regions in Transition Supporting Ukraine Redevelopment and Reconstruction
Three partners from Poland, Czech Republic and Slovakia – IETU, IURS, SPECTRA with UA partner – NGU LEDA NET want to support reconstruction of Ukrainian regions destroyed by Russian invasion. Project partners have planned activities aimed at the most effective transfer of knowledge on various aspects of transformation (social, economic and environmental). Issues related to the development of regions in the future, post-industrial land repurposing (including post-mining assets), especially in the context of the environment and the quality of the life of the inhabitants, will be important. The facilities of the mining industry and other sectors can be an excellent potential for building post-industrial tourism, as it was done in the V4 countries (examples in Poland, the Czech Republic and Slovakia). The project is intended to help cities and regions of Ukraine to plan and implement regional just redevelopment and transition, with aware people of Ukraine involved.

The project will organize study tour for stakeholders from Ukraine in Poland, Czech Republic and Slovakia and virtual schools for academia/students to transfer the knowledge and experience of V4 regions in transition, which will be crucial in the rebuilding of Ukraine.
Project Objectives
On 23rd of June 2022 European Council granted Ukraine the status of a candidate for accession to the European Union. The country intends to adapt it slaw and take actions to meet the requirements for candidates, and later for members of the European Union. This also applies to the energy transformation of its regions, in particular coal regions. It should be in line with the EU policy outlined in the "Green Deal". The countries of V4 have been undergoing energy transformation for many years, especially in mining regions. Poland and the Czech Republic, with industrial regions adjacent to each other, have the greatest knowledge in this area. Experiences related to the energy transformation are a valuable source of knowledge for Ukraine, where such activities will also be carried out, and in some places are already in progress.

Specific objectives
- Knowledge building addressed to various social groups, especially local government administration, enterprises, NGOs
- Training designed for students, scientists, and other target groups, presents important economic, social and environmental issues useful in the process of rebuilding of UA after the end of the war
- 1 study visit allows participants from UA to familiarise with the experience of V4 countries in the field of environmental restoration, repurposing of post-industrial sites, financing of transition process and social participation
- 2 virtual schools
- Video knowledge compendium with UA inscriptions
Expected Results
- Catalogues of successful projects, implemented inV4 countries, will developed in English and in Ukraine
- International collaboration for implementation of future projects in Ukraine, will be established

- Regional public authority – representatives of regional councils or person responsible for planning, environment, tourism or transition
- Business organisation, SME´s, -land owners, construction companies, development agencies, developers, leisure and tourism service provider organization provide business connected with transition of region
- Professional public and experts -persons who are professionally involved in the objectives of the project
- NGO -organisations supporting development, education and environmental activities
- Local public authority – representatives of municipalities and inter-municipal organisations responsible for economic, environmental and regional development
- Higher education and research – representatives of urban ,(regional) planning, environmental, development or other similar topic departments in universities
- General public from transition regions and students
